How does Vulcan Work

Vulcan is an advanced physical water treatment system that prevents limescale without using chemicals, salt, magnets, or pipe modifications. Installed externally on your existing pipework, Vulcan works without ever coming into direct contact with the water.

Using advanced electronic impulse technology, Vulcan alters the physical structure of limescale crystals as water flows through the pipe. The minerals remain in the water, but the crystals lose their ability to adhere to pipes, heating elements, and other water-using equipment. Existing scale deposits gradually become easier to break down, while new limescale build-up is significantly reduced.

Will Vulcan Help Me Save Energy?

Will Vulcan Work on My Water Supply?

Vulcan is designed to work effectively on the vast majority of municipal and private water supplies worldwide. Performance depends on the mineral composition and water quality.

For optimum performance, the following water conditions are recommended:

  • Iron: ≤ 1 ppm
  • Manganese: ≤ 0.1 ppm
  • Electrical Conductivity: Up to approximately 5,000 µS/cm
  • pH: Below 9
  • Moderate concentrations of dissolved salts including chlorides, phosphates, nitrates and sulphates

If your water falls outside these parameters, our technical team can assess your water analysis and advise on the most suitable solution.

Will Vulcan Work with High Sulphate Levels?

High sulphate concentrations are common in some industrial water systems and can present additional scaling challenges.

Sulphates, such as gypsum (calcium sulphate), can bind with limescale and create extremely hard, dense deposits. These deposits are significantly more difficult for any physical water treatment technology to influence.

Proven Performance

Extensive testing has shown that Vulcan performs well where sulphate concentrations remain moderate in relation to total water hardness.

For example:

  • Effective: Approximately 25% sulphate to 75% total hardness
  • Less Effective: Where sulphate levels approach a 1:1 ratio with total hardness (e.g. sulphate 2,286 mg/L and total hardness 1,950 mg/L)

Because every water supply has a unique mineral composition, actual performance will vary from site to site.

High Sulphate Water Solutions

Where sulphate concentrations are exceptionally high, a pre-treatment system such as HESR (High Efficiency Sulphate Reduction) may be recommended to reduce sulphate levels before the water is treated by the Vulcan Anti-Scale System.

This combined approach can deliver significantly improved performance in challenging industrial applications.

Will Vulcan reduce scale on my shower screen

With hard water, soap solutions form a white precipitate (soap scum) instead of producing lather, because the 2+ ions destroy the surfactant properties of the soap by forming a solid precipitate (the soap scum). A major component of such scum is calcium stearate, which arises from sodium stearate, the main component of soap:

Vulcan systems changes the CaCo3 and the resulting carbonic change  will make the water feel softer and soaps lather more. As the water retains all the minerals there may be some very low level of soap scum and limescale deposits on the shower screens.

Vulcan is not magnetic

Vulcan is a physical water treatment system that does NOT use salts, chemicals or magnets.
It treats the water with unique RFAEF electric impulses which are generated in the electronic unit and are controlled by a computerised micro-chip.

How does Vulcan remove limescale deposits

Without the Vulcan water treatment, the scale particles in the water stick to all surfaces that then build solid deposits. The patented Vulcan-RFAEF Impulse-Technology modifies the crystallisation of calcium and magnesium using the natural process of electrophoresis that also changes the Carbonic balance of the water. The crystals become smoother and rod-shaped and can no longer attach to each other. Scale is now washed away in the water as a fine powder. The formation of new deposits is stopped. The more rod-shaped crystals that are created, the greater the effect of scale-prevention.

How does Vulcan protect my pipes and equipment

As soon as scale deposits have built up, iron particles imbed into it. Thus, the scale and the rust blend into one material that are seen as red-colored deposits in the pipe. When the Vulcan treatment gently dismantles the scale, it simultaneously reduces also rust with it.
The carbonic change reacts with the metal pipes and creates a very fine protective metal carbonate layer.

Is Vulcan conditioned water safe to drink

Vulcan is installed on top of the pipe and does not need cutting of pipes and there is no added salts, chemicals or metal alloys.

Can Vulcan help to reduce Bacteria, Virusus and Legionella

We know that scale acts as a breeding ground for bacteria and other unwanted substances. As soon as Vulcan is installed and the scale is reduced, the bacteria breeding ground is also reduced. This way, bacterial contamination is greatly reduced or even fully removed.
